The Client Problem

Core Friction Points

Animating stylized 3D characters with convincing real-world physics requires balancing exaggerated cartoon appeal with authentic biological weight distribution, natural limb flexing, believable friction against surfaces, and seamless IK/FK rig transitions without joint pinching or clipping.

02

Strategy & Architecture

Engineered expressive 3D character rigging and locomotion keyframing in Blender and Maya. The project demonstrates advanced physics fundamentals including center of gravity shifts, payload resistance mechanics, facial expression sync, and tension dynamics.

How We Solved It

The Engineered Solution

Constructed an advanced bespoke bone deformer rig in Blender with custom squash-and-stretch controls, dual IK/FK solvers, and physics-driven mass simulation. Animated three core locomotion studies: a fluid natural walk cycle, a heavy spherical payload clean-and-carry displaying intense strain and center-of-gravity compensation, and a high-tension rope tug-of-war demonstrating realistic backward lean and ground traction.

1
Anatomy Rigging & Dual IK/FK Solvers: Created a responsive character skeleton with bendy-bones, smooth weight painting, and seamless FK/IK switches for complex arm and leg kinematics.
2
Locomotion & Mass Transfer Keyframing: Paced key poses for walk cycles, heavy payload lifting, and tension recoil with precise anticipation and follow-through.
3
Cycles Studio Lighting & Render Staging: Staged clean 3-point daylight studio lighting with contact ambient occlusion and rendered at pristine 60 FPS.
